Title sequence up to 1:03 minutes
The title sequence has most of the main iconography sequences that we picked up in class.
Circular objects- At the very start it has circles and ovals moving across screens
The world from space- We get the shot of the volcano from above. And a look at the world in a map form. This gives us the impression that we are a satellite looking down at earth sending the information to them.
Rushing graphics- Right from the vey start of the sequence you have different shapes a images moving across the screen, moving in all different directions and speed.
Fast, beating music- the music is fast paced and is made from a orchestra, brass band pieces.
Colour- The introduction is made up of blues and chrome colours which we have found out are the most common colours found in a news opening sequence.
Text- The text is a bold font with the letters being straight.
The newsreader are well spoken, smartly dressed and where ready to be talking when the camera was on them. The news readers are made up of a middle aged man and a younger, mid twenties year old woman. This is usually used to show that in this day and age the men are still shown as the superior sex, and that is why whey have a older man which show experience and knowledge and the younger woman as youth and beauty. The male is the more common speaker which we found out was a common theme when looking at other examples of news introductions.
The common mise-en-scene that you get with this sequence is war and disaster because in the intro it starts of by talking about war in Iran over oil, then a mass killing in Turkey and Iraq. And finally disagreement in politicians. This is a common theme with news. They mainly talk about the big disasters and potential death stories first. The main subject that comes on first is the war breaking out between the countries over oil. This is the big, first story because there will be deaths and casualties.
This identifies some of the main conventions but does not really explain the connotations - eg what do rushing graphics connote?
