I have just read your job application on Live and I want to address you that some of the points that you have put are very offensive and that it is very inappropriate. So this letter is going to be about me pointing out the areas that drastically need changing or improving.
Firstly all these points are all based around the equal rights act in the brief detail about your location, hours and salary at the start of the job aplication. You say that the hours will have to be between ‘10-45 hours a week’. You need to change this as the difference between the hours is far too large.
A related issue arises when you say that the salary will be between ‘£15,000 - £35,000 per week + benefits’. The salary should be more precise.
These two statements need changing as they could breach rules of equal rights as another person could be doing the same job as you but earning more money.
The advert also states that you are looking for a Christian as your religious views which is discriminating other people that support other religious or non religious views.
Next you have broken The Equality Act 2010 (which was law before this job came out). You first broke it when you asked for a male/female under 30 years old; you cannot discriminate to people over that age as they have the same right to do that job. You then broke it when you said ‘‘Including female victims and male offenders’’. You are stereotyping and saying that it is always men that are offenders. You cannot do this as it breaches equality rules. Also not once in the job role does it tell us what coverage we have if we injure ourselves whilst working, therefore breaching employer liability guidelines. Trade unions such as ‘TUC’ and ‘Worksmart; help you with what rights you have when it comes to work injuries. This helps when going through your rights in your contract, it tells you what you are, and should be covered for.
You list some of the jobs that will need to be done in the job. But the codes of practise are set to protect the consumer that is involved in the work place. You may have set these rules but as I am applying for the job, and I am not a worker yet, these rules do not apply to me so there is no need to put it on the job application.
You have suggested that the role will be to tell children in schools about rape, and the effects it has on people. This is very sensitive area and would need much more thought in relation to child protection guidelines. In the job application it says that we will have to talk about and show re-enactments of rape scenarios, what you are not taking into factor is that there are going to be young children, of both sexes and from all different ethnic backgrounds. The images that will be shown may well offend individuals or groups of people. Some children may have had an experience with rape when they were young, and with us bringing it up again may cause the child distress. I am worried that some of the content if being portrayed in a bad way with society. Firstly you are looking for a Christian, with a lot of society being very patriotic and have feelings about religions; I believe this could cause some trouble. And as you are a Christian company people may not see your views the same as there’s.
You are breaking many OFCOM broadcasting codes with this rob application form. First you want us to talk about rape, and show re-enactments to a rape scene. This is very inappropriate as this will be presented to young adults and children. In the text you put “Plan and produce a short documentary that can be shown to children at high school promoting the No means No date rape campaign”. Also you say “You should interview teenagers and other individuals who might be/have been affected by the topic”. These are just some of the OFCOM codes of protecting the under-eighteens make it inappropriate.
1.1 Material that might seriously impair the physical, mental or moral development of people under eighteen must not be broadcast.
1.2 In the provision of services; broadcasters must take all reasonable steps to protect people under eighteen. For television services, this is in addition to their obligations resulting from the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (in particular, Article 27, see Appendix 2).
1.3 Children must also be protected by appropriate scheduling from material that is unsuitable for them.
All of these rules exist because of the communications act of 2003 so that everything that is shown on TV is suitable for all ages, sexes and ethnic backgrounds. The Obscene Publications act of 1959 was enforced by the UK government to prevent anything obscene on TV in England and Wales. The BBFC then came about to put age restrictions on certain programs and movies. This is so if a movie has violence and nude scenes in it, they rated the movie an 18, which is the legal age you should be able to see that kind of movie. BBFC have 7 different age categories “U, PG, 12A, 12, 15, 18 and 18R”. In the small print of the job you say “as a Christian lead organisation, you should promote the ideals of the Christian faith and try to encourage young people to contact us for further help and guidance. **You will be recompensed up to the value of £20 for the production of the video”.
Copyright is when you copy somebody else’s work and not ask for their permission to use that piece of work. This could lead them to sue you. You say that you want popular music to be played to appeal to the younger audience. But if we don't ask for their permission they can sue you for copyright. Also you only allow a salary of £20, which is not going to be enough money to have the type of music that you are wanting as we would have to ask permission from the singer and producer of the songs. To do this they often ask for money if you want to play their songs.
Yours sincerely

Jamie,
ReplyDeleteThis is a good first attempt and although you have gotten a little muddled in places, you have covered a lot of the content and quoted relevant codes. I have therefore awarded a pass for this task and only need to tidy the structure up to aim for a merit.
You jump around a little at the start and talk about several areas in one sentence; break the content up and focus on one point at a time - you should use the sheet from class to structure the letter.
You also just mention copyright at the end but you should have linked this to the soundtrack and recompense in order to make it fit.
Make these changes Jamie and you will get a merit.

Jamie,
ReplyDeleteI still don't think this is there I'm afraid, see me on Monday and we'll get it to a merit.
