Research And Planning

Research and planning

Music Track

I looked at all different genres of music from hip hop to country, but I have chosen to do the song "Molly Drove Me Away" by The People The Poet. I have known about the song for a long time and i have always loved the song and the story behind it. The song has a fast up pace beat which would suggest that it is a happy uplifting song which it is but the narrative behind the story is the consequences of driving under the influence of drugs and partying hard. Its about the damage it can do to you and others. There is a really nice quote in the song that sums up the whole song, “You only get one life, so don’t go giving it away.”

The band consists of 4 members, Leon the lead singer, Lewis and Tyla the guitarists and Peter on drums. They are a soft rock band that have been heavily influenced on folk and rock bands like Deaf Havana, The Maine and Mumford And Sons. A video of the bands are shown below.

When I hear the song it makes me feel happier because the speed of the song and the beat makes it energetic. Even knowing the lyrics are sad the soft rock tone of his voice make it sound good. The song is fast paced straight from the start, and the song is approximately 3:58 long.

Image And Representation

The image and look for a band is very important as it is their hole image, a band/artist usually reflect the type of music that they sing. The People The Poet are a soft rock mixed with folk kind of band. Their clothing reflects this by them wearing a mixture of skinny jeans and shirts which are usually associated with rock music, but they follow the folk style of clothing by wearing old tweed wool waistcoats and blazers. This old style image is also reflected on the design of their album covers. As you can see from the image of one of their albums you can see that they have taken an old photograph from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. They era was around the same time most people would have worn tweed wool suits and shirts. They are not the kind of band that would wear makeup as there style is a old fashioned plain look, so they are meant to look a little messy and not clean shaven. This is why all of them have beards.

After looking at some of their existing videos it is very clear that they like to do pretty simple videos that fit with the song. The videos use lots of light monotone images and colors to give a nice ambient feel to the videos. In one of the videos they have used some old photos with the old flickering effect to show that they are old, this comes back to their old image of themselves. The locations that they film in are beautiful woodlands where the can get nice shots of the trees, but they also go into France in one of their videos where they get pictures of various landmarks. The narratives of most of their music videos are very influenced by the lyrics in the song. So for example one song is called "The Trip and the music video is them on tour in France doing various things around the city. Another song they did is called "Stability" and the video matches the song as it shows actual home footage of them at home when they where young. The narrative behind this song is them thanking their parents for their upbringing and that they are going to live the life the best they can.
